The Land-In-Pro Pilot Site Mapping
Within Work Package 2 (WP2) – In-depth Investigation, the Land-In-Pro Pilot Site Mapping provides a structured, site-based dataset for the partially decommissioned industrial complex of Ferrania, which has been chosen as the pilot site for the project's research activities.
Developed through fieldwork campaigns, on-site GIS mapping, and processing of unpublished archival materials currently under inventory process at the Ferrania Film Museum in Cairo Montenotte (Savona), the dataset documents the principal components of the (post)industrial landscape of Ferrania (factory buildings, workers’ housing, and infrastructures) and traces their transformations to the present day. These activities build on the archival and bibliographical research undertaken in WP1, provide historical context and support the interpretation of site evidence.
Conceived as both a scientific tool and a public resource, the Land-In-Pro Pilot Site Mapping serves scholars, researchers, and students, as well as local institutions, cultural organisations, and wider audiences interested in Ferrania’s industrial legacy.
It directly underpins subsequent project final phases, i.e., WP3 (processing and harmonisation in the webGIS) and WP4 (interpretation, evaluation, and development of the Assessment Tool), and is openly available via the Land-In-Pro Community on Zenodo.
Land-In-Pro researchers and team would like to acknowledge that fundamental in developing the Land-In-Pro Pilot Site Mapping has been the close collaboration with the Ferrania Film Museum, the Municipality of Cairo Montenotte and the representatives for the owners of the former industrial site in Ferrania.
